01 - Snow FallingTaken with the Canon S40. A simple shot of the falling snow, lit by the flash.
2005-02-02.jpg
02 - Ascent To The CloudsTaken with the Canon S40. The PenkenBahn again, this time in heavy cloud/fog, vanishing into the distance.
2005-02-03.jpg
03 - Rushing RiverTaken with the Canon S40 and the Tamron 0.56x wide. The view from one of the bridges over the Zill river, unfortunately with quite a lot of vignetting due to the wide lens, but still shows the river as how it looked.
2005-02-04.jpg
04 - What A ViewTaken with the Canon S40. The view from the top of the Wanglspitz (2420m) was just stunning, especially with the clouds in the valleys below.

05 - Battle ScarsTaken with the Tamron 28-75 and the Canon 420EX Speedlite. A painful collection of scars, not all of which are visible (since they go all around my calves), all caused by my ski boots in the first few days - I learnt the hard way that you shouldn't do them up too tightly!1 comments

06 - RuckedTaken with the Tamron 28-75 and the Canon 420EX SpeedLite. I finally finished unpacking today, so what better than a shot of my battered old rucksack? Still does the job, and it's easier to carry than a suitcase!
2005-02-07.jpg
07 - UpShotTaken with the Tamron 28-75 and the Canon 420EX SpeedLite. Just trying to do something different in the way of self portraits... and I think I need a shave :o)
2005-02-08.jpg
08 - Haunted?Taken with the Tamron 28-75. I've not played with crash-zooms for a while, and wondered what it'd be like to do a self-portrait using the technique. Turns out I look quite ghoulish, which is interesting... The advantage of shooting in the evening is that you've got enough time to move the zoom ring while the shot exposes, as long as you can keep the camera (reasonably) steady throughout.

09 - White GoldTaken with the Tamron 28-75 and the Canon 420EX SpeedLite. Coming back from a holiday means one thing - huge bars of duty-free Toblerone at the airport! I managed to resist the temptation to crack one open until today, and managed to squeeze a couple of shots off before tucking in.
2005-02-10.jpg
10 - DenimTaken with the Tamron 28-75 and the Canon 420EX SpeedLite. A messy room with laundry lying around can sometimes inspire, and led me to create this particular shot. The jeans are actually blue desaturated, since the black jeans I have don't have the funky orange stitching.

11 - GrilledTaken with the Tamron 28-75 and the Canon 420EX SpeedLite. My old Iiyama 19" monitor died two days ago, and is awaiting replacement sometime next week. This means that it's currently not got a home, and is wandering around my room (ie anywhere out of the way at that moment becomes in the way a few later), but it also means I get to see angles of it that I wouldn't normally, hence this shot of some of the ventilation grills on the back casing. It feels almost like architecture in this view...
2005-02-12.jpg
12 - Tulip Still LifeTaken with the Tamron 28-75. A simple still life of some freshly-cut tulips against the blue wooden background of my fireplace, with some artsy filtering (for a change).
2005-02-13.jpg
13 - Red LanternTaken with the Tamron 28-75 and the Canon 420EX SpeedLite. This lantern-shaped bottle caught my eye whilst I was shopping for souveneirs in Austria, and I had to buy (at least) one. It was originally filled with a rather tasty kiwi schnapps (and was a brilliant green), but I'd drunk that before I thought about taking a photo, doh! The red cordial I replaced it with works nicely tho.
2005-02-14.jpg
14 - Quad BurnTaken with the Tamron 28-75. A simple shot of the glass cooker with all four hobs alight, taken with a long exposure to draw out the flame effects. However, as you can see, the bottom-left burner has been playing up recently, and just doesn't burn as well as the other four. Time to ask the landlord to get someone to have a look at it, methinks...
2005-02-15.jpg
15 - Double ActionTaken with the Sigma 50mm. It's been a while since my last macro, so I grabbed the nearest thing to hand (my philishave electric travel razor) and grabbed a few shots of the heads, this being the best of the bunch.
2005-02-16.jpg
16 - Leafy GreenTaken with the Sigma 50mm and the Canon 420EX SpeedLite. Cabbage. That's all I've got to say about this one :o)
2005-02-17.jpg
17 - Speed TypingTaken with the Tamron 28-75. A long exposure shot that took ages to get even close to how I wanted it to look, since my flash doesn't strobe (and the batteries are getting tired), and I needed both hands in the frame! This is one of a number of image concepts that I was shooting for possible use on freetechsupport.org, a site which I have recently volunteered to help out with.
2005-02-18.jpg
18 - Colour ExplosionTaken with the Tamron 28-75. One of my housemates brought back this unusual-looking plant, with red & green varigated leaves and an odd "flower" part in the centre, which was crying out for a photo. I fancied doing something different from the norm, so combined a slow crash-zoom with seriously messy levels to get this glow of colours.
2005-02-19b.jpg
19 - OMGWTF!Taken with the Tamron 28-75 and the Canon 420EX SpeedLite. I'd never tried any high-key (ie overexposed) style shots before, so pointed the camera at my face and shot a few insane expressions (IMO my face only comes alive & interesting to shoot when I'm doing an exaggerated / extreme look). I made a head & shoulders shot, which I messed around with a bit, but then I recropped the original, and hit 'auto brightness/contrast' about 20 times, which gave this grainy, almost inky look. Love it!
2005-02-20.jpg
20 - UnlockedTaken with the Tamron 28-75 and the Canon 420EX SpeedLite. No real reason, I just liked the look of this shot.
2005-02-21.jpg
21 - Burning LightTaken with the Tamron 28-75. A colour-themed shot, with no details, just patterns of light. I was surprised at just how well the lens fitting into the end of one of my pint glasses, so took a number of shots through the base of the glass, with this one catching the most light off the reflective insides.
2005-02-22b.jpg
22 - Ghost MoonTaken with the Canon 70-200 and the Canon 1.4x Tele. While messing about in M mode, trying to get a shot of a very bright moon against a mostly clear sky, I managed to get this strange ghosting effect when a small layer of cloud briefly passed over...
2005-02-23.jpg
23 - Left FootTaken with the Tamron 28-75 and the Canon 420EX SpeedLite. A slightly unusual view of the underside of my left foot.
2005-02-24.jpg
24 - Dream ScreenTaken with the Tamron 28-75 and the Canon 420EX SpeedLite. Mmm... serious widescreen :o) OK, I confess, I took a shot of my new (ie replacement for the burnt-out one) 19" monitor, with some serious stretching in post... but I can dream, can't I?
2005-02-25.jpg
25 - SprayTaken with the Tamron 28-75 and the Canon 420EX SpeedLite. I've always wanted to try this kind of shot, so I finally had a go. It's damn tricky getting the spray frozen (with the flash) without blowing out the highlights on the hand, which I've had to compromise with here. I also know to shoot from further away in future, to get more of the spray diffusing in shot.
2005-02-26.jpg
26 - ElixirTaken with the Tamron 28-75. Ahh, a pint of glowing red liquid, does wonders for colds! And before you ask, it's actually blackcurrant squash with a maglite torch underneath :o)
2005-02-27.jpg
27 - Shadow of ChristmasTaken with the Tamron 28-75. Yes, we're still got a couple of Christmas decorations stuck up on one of the windows, but they add a bit of colour, and when the sun hits them, it casts directly onto the net curtain behind, giving his doubling effect.
2005-02-28.jpg
28 - Blue BlobsTaken with the Tamron 28-75. My old desklamp had been serving double duty as my bedside lamp for many years, but it finally died last weekend. So when I went shopping for a replacement, did I look for something equally as practical? No, I bought a much less versatile lamp ... that happened to be perfect material for an interesting photo :o)
